Walden announces support for mental health bill

Mental HealthOre. — U.S. Representative Greg Walden is co-sponsoring a major mental health reform bill moving through the house now.

The Helping Families in Mental Crisis Act (H.R. 2646) aims to deliver better mental health treatment to patients and families.

Walden says improved treatment is a necessary step to prevent violence, “patients with mental illness receiving treatment… they are 15 times less likely to commit violent acts as those who go untreated.”

The bill also advances telepsychiatry to help mentally ill patients in rural areas.
