Weed families learning fate of their homes after Boles Fire.

Weed, Ca — Going back home has been far from easy for residents of Weed and while more than a hundred homes are completely gone, some remain standing.

The Tuman family, like many in Weed, left their home Monday not expecting to ever be able to go back.

On Wednesday they returned to find what they say is a little bit of a miracle in a community devastated by the Boles Fire.

Jeannie Tuman says she can’t believe what she’s seen. Her home of more than 30 years, and the home her daughters Darcy and Trisha were raised in, still standing.

Their home, one of just 4 on highland drive that survived the Boles fire.

“I felt so blessed that I had my home, but I, I had this horrible feeling for the people that didn’t,” said Tuman.

The fire, scorched homes just feet away.

“These were our life long neighbors, It’s just heartwrenching,” said Tuman.

While some may attribute their good fortune to luck .

“Sorry about your fence, we cut it down, your pool water was a huge help, Cal Fire, Siskiyou,” said Tuman, reading a note from Cal Fire.

A note left by firefighters in Tuman’s mailbox points to their hard work as her home’s saving grace.

“It helped save our house,” said Tuman.

A miracle in the center of a disaster zone that residents of Weed vow to rebuild.

While waiting to return to her house Tuman and her daughters are doing what they can to help their neighbors and friends, volunteering at the local shelter, helping those displaced by the Boles fire.
