Wheelchair-bound woman’s car crashes on I-5, catches on fire

Central Point, Ore. -A wheel-chair bound woman was taken to the hospital, after her car crash in the center median of Interstate 5, and caught on fire. Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to milepost 33, just north of Central Point, just before 11 AM on Friday.

Police say the woman was driving northbound, when for an unknown reason, the car crossed the center median into the southbound lanes, and crashed into a guardrail and cement overpass pillar.

“The vehicle caught on fire briefly, and was put out by some bystanders that arrived shortly after,” Sergeant David Beck said. “There was no other vehicles, luckily, that were involved.”

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital. The extent of her injuries are not known at this time. The cause of the crash has not been released.
