Woman reunites family with baby book after more than a decade

Grants Pass, Ore. — They saying ‘everything comes full circle,’ but Wilderville man David Kelly never thought it would be in the form of a baby book.

His son’s baby book was lost for more than a decade, but now it’s back in his possession thanks to Grants Pass woman Mary Mason.

“I’m excited because that was my goal to find the owner of it,” Mason said.

Mason bought the book at a garage sale. All the items sold had been left in storage units. She thought the book was empty, but when she opened it up she found precious memories about a baby boy named Justin. They were written by his mother Carol.

Mason reached out to NBC5 hoping to get the book back to the family. Sunday night Kelly saw the story and couldn’t believe his eyes.

“The more they went through the book the more positive I was that it was his,” Kelly said.

Kelly and Justin’s mom, Carol, have been divorced for 11 years, and Kelly said Carol kept all of their son’s documents. He knew they were in a Grants Pass storage unit and she lost the unit when she was unable to pay for it.

Kelly said he doesn’t have any records of Justin before he got sole custody when the boy was five-years-old. But now, a week before his 13th birthday the father and son are reliving some of Justin’s first moments.

Emboldened by the discovery Kelly said he’ll go back to the site where the garage sale was to see if can find any more of Justin’s baby items. He also said the book will be a new project as they work to fill it out a little bit more.
