Woman drowns following rafting accident

RAFTING ACCIDENT PICUpdate (08/15 4:00 p.m.) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the accident victim, identified at 57-year-old Eagle Point resident Janet DellaRosa, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday night.

Trail, Ore. — According to police, an Eagle Point woman is ‘unresponsive’ in the hospital, following a rafting accident on the Rogue River near Trail on Sunday.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 26000 block of Highway 62 near Elk Creek campground, around 2 PM Sunday afternoon.

Deputies discovered the woman had gotten out of the raft to free it from a sand bar, when she was swept away by the current. She was found floating in her life jacket, face-down, a short distance away.

CPR was performed until medics arrived, and she was taken to the hospital. The woman is currently being treated by doctors in Medford, but is unresponsive.
