Local students traveling in Europe safe after Belgian attacks

south medford high schoolMedford, Ore. — Several groups of Rogue Valley students studying abroad in Europe, are safe tonight. South Medford High School has two groups studying abroad in France and Germany, which hug the Belgium border.

Upon learning of the attacks in Brussels overnight, school administrators reached out to the tour company that’s with their 16 students.

“We made contact with the company and they assured us that they were in contact with the student group and also have been in contact with the US state department,” Natalie Hurd, Communications Specialist for 549C says, “and they tell us that there is no direct cause for concern for our students.”

The Rogue River School District had students in Europe as well, they say all students are safe and have been moved away from the terrorist activity.

The students will be returning to Oregon next week. Both districts don’t anticipate the students will have any issues getting back.
