Logan Kitzhaber sentenced for DUII crash

Portland, Ore. – The son of former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber was sentenced to seven days in jail in connection with a vehicle crash that occurred last July.

Logan Kitzhaber pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of prescription drugs, third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault, according to Portland NBC affiliate KGW.

Kitzhaber’s plea was part of a deal struck with prosecutors. He originally faced charges of DUII, two counts of third-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree assault, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangering and second degree criminal mischief.

In addition to seven days in jail, Kitzhaber was sentenced to five years’ probation.

Oregon State Police said Kitzhaber was driving on Highway 101 in Lincoln County when his vehicle drifted across the center line and sideswiped a motorhome. Kitzhaber was seriously injured in the crash.

Police said Kitzhaber told a paramedic at the scene he had a beer before the crash and smoked marijuana the night before.

The driver and passenger inside the motorhome sustained non-life threatening injuries.
