Man arrested after fatal accident near Cave Junction

Josephine County, Ore. – Police arrest the alleged driver involved in single vehicle accident near Cave Junction that left one teen passenger dead.

Oregon State Police say that around 3:20 in the morning on Thursday, they received a report of a crash on Waldo Road near the intersection of Takilma Road near Cave Junction.

According to police, two passengers were ejected from the vehicle after it apparently left the roadway and rolled several times. The driver fled the scene.

A 16-year-old male passenger was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center with unspecified injuries. The second passenger, 18-year-old Trevor Praszek of Cave Junction, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that detectives from the OSP Criminal Investigation Division later arrested the suspected driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Dennis Knight of Cave Junction. He is charged with criminally negligent homicide, and two counts of failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person, which is a felony. Knight was lodged at the Josephine County Jail.

Oregon State Police will continue to investigate the incident.
