Man arrested after stand-off in Grants Pass

0512 Jeffrey Kime-Pelt featGrants Pass, Ore. – The Grants Pass SWAT and Negotiation Teams were activated after a man was reportedly seen brandishing a shotgun.

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said that just after 8:00 Thursday morning, construction workers in the area of SW Bridge Street and SW 4th Street called 911 to report a man who came out of a neighboring residence with a gun. The workers told police that the man cocked the gun and threatened them.

When police arrived on scene, they set up a perimeter around the suspect’s residence. They were able to identify the suspect as 29-year-old Jeffrey James Kime-Pelt.

GPDPS said that Kime-Pelt went back inside the residence when he was confronted by officers. Because of his behavior and the presence of a firearm, the SWAT team was activated.

By coincidence, the SWAT and Negotiations Teams were taking part in a training scenario at Three Rivers Medical Center.

Side streets near the incident were closed as officers communicated with Kime-Pelt.

Police said Kime-Pelt ultimately surrendered at 9:50 a.m. He was taken to the Josephine County Jail and charged with menacing and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
