Medford house causes problems for neighbors

It’s an ugly sight with piles of trash.

A Medford property is slapped with more than a dozen citations by the city.

But neighbors say there’s much more to this mess than meets the eye.

One neighbor has lived in that neighborhood for 18 years.

He says with all the inappropriate activity at this house, his grandchildren are no longer allowed to visit him.

“This is a beautiful neighborhood, and without that house there, it’d be a way nicer neighborhood,” a neighbor said.

He’s one of many neighbors fed up with a house on Orange Street.

He doesn’t want to be identified because he doesn’t want anymore problems.

“It’s 24/7. There’s people coming in and out of there all day, all night.”

Syringes on the sidewalk, foul language and unsafe driving are only a few of the problems neighbors mention.

“You see a baggie with powder in it… you pretty much assume it’s drugs.”

But drugs aren’t the reason this house has gotten the attention of the Medford City Council.

The property also has an ‘unlawful accumulation of junk’, according to Medford Police.

At the council’s most recent meeting, it decided to have the junk removed.

“I’m glad that we’re able to step in and clean up the mess for the neighbors… for the neighborhood… it has been in this condition for quite a while,” Sergeant Don Lane said.

Neighbors say cleaning the house up is just the first step.

Their ultimate goal – shut the house down.

“There comes a time when something has to be done and hopefully it’s gonna be soon,” the neighbor said.

Medford Police say in order for the house to be shut down, there’s a long legal process.

It starts with two crimes or violations being identified in a 30-day period.

Sergeant Don Lane says he hopes that 30-day period can be expanded, so they have a bigger window to capture crime.
