Medford, Ore. – After investigating 10 gun thefts this month, the Medford Police Department is reminding the public to lock up their guns.

According to police, three of the firearms were taken from vehicles that were unlocked.

MPD said, “It is clear that thieves are looking for guns, your guns. Please take precautions don’t leave your gun unsecured. If it’s not on you, then lock it up. And never ever leave it in your car.”

Officers also said to make sure to document the serial numbers of your guns.

“Many people believe guns are ‘registered’, but that is not the case. We need the serial number if it’s lost or stolen.”

It only takes a few minutes to use your smartphone to take pictures of the serial numbers and any unique or identifying features.
