Mollie Tibbets, missing Iowa student, believed to be found dead

POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa (CNN) – A body has been found in rural Iowa near where University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts went missing.

Investigators are planning an afternoon news conference to give an update on the discovery.

The body was found in Poweshiek County, one of the locations in the search.

For now, investigators are being tight-lipped with details, saying they are still working to identify the remains.

No information will be released prior to the news conference.

Tibbetts was last seen jogging on July 18th in the small community of Brooklyn, about an hour east of Des Moines.

Her family reported her missing after she didn’t show up for work the next day.

Investigators launched an extensive search for Tibbetts across the area, including in ponds, fields, and from the air.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said last week authorities have received more than 1,500 tips and conducted more than 500 interviews in the case.
