Multiple fires near Hilt fully contained

Update (07/20 5:50 p.m.) — The small fires hear Hilt are now 100% contained. The cause of the fires is still under investigation, however Cal Fire says a train passing through the area may have been the source of the sparks.


Hilt, Calif. — Firefighter are battling multiple fires 2 miles southeast of Hilt in Siskiyou County. The fires started sometime after 3:00 Tuesday afternoon near the railroad tracks.

According to Cal Fire, the Bailey Fire consists of 3 separate fires totaling 25 acres. As of 5:00 Tuesday evening, the fires were 50% contained.

The Oregon Department of Forestry, Klamath National Forest officials, and local authorities are assisting with the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Cal Fire said crews will be monitoring the fire overnight.
