N.Y. teen accepted to all 8 Ivy League schools

Elmont, N.Y. (CNN) — You could say this Elmont Memorial High School senior is at the top of her game, academically speaking.

Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has a 101.6 grade point average. She was an Intel Science finalist, and the 17-year-old has just learned that she’s been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools.

Augusta said, “My family is so excited.  Sometimes I feel like they get so much more excited than me.  They literally scream.  When I called my mom and told her she was screaming on the phone.”

The valedictorian credits her success to her family as well as her teachers at Elmont. She says it’s instructors like Michelle Flannory who were always pushing her to think outside the box.

But Flannory says she has always seen something special in Augusta, “I think Augusta has always had an eye for improvement and growing.  So that has been critical to her success.”

Now Augusta has one big decision to make by May 1st. She has not only been accepted to the 8 Ivy League Schools, she’s also been accepted to four others; Rensaleer, NYU, MIT, and Johns Hopkins.

Augusta said, “I’m still quite unsure what school I’m going to attend, but I know attending any of them will be such a great honor. But for now it’s just such… so amazing I just really can’t believe it still.”
