Need for child advocates in Jackson, Siskiyou Counties

MEDFORD, Ore. – There is an overwhelming need for Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASAs, in Jackson County.

They interact with children who are in the court system because of abuse or neglect and advocate for their best interest.

They’re often the one consistent person a child sees through their case.

CASA of Jackson County Deputy Director Wenonoa Spivak explained,  “They will develop a relationship with the child, they’ll go wherever that child is—school, medical appointments. They will advocate for the best interests medically, educationally, psychologically and they will report those findings to the judge.”

About 266 children are waiting for a CASA.

If you’re interested in becoming a CASA in Jackson County they hold orientations every single Thursday at their North Front Street location in Medford at noon.

It’s a similar situation for CASA of Siskiyou County. Volunteers are needed in every corner of the county.

If you’re interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Siskiyou County, you can attend any one of these information sessions in Mount Shasta, Fort Jones, and Yreka.
