New equipment for Jackson County Sheriff Office

Central Point, Ore., — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is getting a high tech upgrade, thanks to a bit of good fortune.

This “Vacuum Metal Deposition Unit” is able to find finger prints and DNA off of evidence that other methods simply can’t.

By using small amounts of gold and zinc inside a vacuum, the machine is able to get better results.

And Sergeant Eric Fox says the agency is planning to share.

“We feel that we could also not only help Jackson County cases but other cases in Southern Oregon that may use this.”

The machine was given to the sheriff’s office by the US Fish and Wildlife Forensic Laboratory in Ashland, after they found they just weren’t using it enough.

Sergeant Fox says it should be up and running within two to three months.
