Medford, Ore — A man who police say broke into a Medford home and assaulted someone, breaking multiple teeth, will not face charges for that incident, but he’s still going to prison.
In January of this year when Medford police responded to a robbery on the 300 block of chestnut street where one of the residents had been assaulted with a gun.
Surveillance video led police to believe 32-year-old Christopher Vinas broke through a window and entered the home to demand money while brandishing a gun.
Despite multiple witnesses at the scene, prosecutors say they had to drop the case because nobody would testify.
“We have to prove cases beyond a reasonable doubt and if the people that are actually victims of the event decide not to cooperate any further it puts us in a position that we just can’t go forward,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeremy Markiewicz.
Vinas was later caught by Central Point Police in September with more than 30 grams of heroin.
He pleaded guilty today to drug charges and will spend 44 months in prison.
He will not face any charges for the January robbery.
