Nuclear density gauge, construction equipment stolen in GP

Grants Pass, Ore., — A nuclear density gauge is among thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment stolen in Grants Pass over the weekend.

JRT Construction has been working on fixing a culvert on Azalea Drive and Ewe Creek Road for the past two weeks.

Every night, crews lock up the equipment in a trailer, including the gauge – which has its own locked box.

When owner TJ Thayer came back Sunday morning to open the trailer, he noticed the locks were broken and the gauge was gone.

That gauge can be dangerous if someone is using it….

“I have to have a special license, and I have to wear a little badge that is monitoring if anything is leaking and stuff, radiation wise, so if someone has it and is messing with it, they need to be careful because it could hurt them.”

Generators and some chain saws were also stolen.

The theft won’t slow down the project, but Thayer says it’s a big set back for the company.
