Death toll rises after earthquake in Italy

Amatrice, Italy (NBC) — Over 12 hours have passed since a powerful earthquake hit central Italy and rescuers from across the country have arrived in force to try and find survivors.

Italy’s prime minister announced this Wednesday afternoon that the death toll has risen to 120.

Small towns with old and quake-vulnerable buildings were devastated by the magnitude 6.0 quake.

Drone video shot by the Italian Fire Brigade show streets of rubble where shops and apartments once stood.

The quake injured hundreds of the people and thousands have been left homeless.
