Sherman County, Ore. – Oregon State Police seized over $2.3 million worth of drugs after a traffic stop on Highway 97, south of Biggs Junction.
Police say an OSP trooper stopped a Dodge Caravan with a Washington plate near milepost 16 for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper noticed a handgun in the glove box of the vehicle after a passenger opened it. Neither of the occupants of the vehicle had a concealed weapons permit, so they were detained.
OSP says a subsequent search of the van revealed around 25 pounds of cocaine, and 44 pounds of methamphetamine. The street value of the drugs is estimated by officers to be around $2.3 million.
Police arrested the driver, 32-year-old Alberto Alejandro Martinez, and the passenger, 31-year-old Jose Helguera Del Rio. Officers say both men were from Washington. They are currently lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on multiple federal drug and firearm related charges.
