Parking spot argument leads to fatal stabbing in Kansas

Wichita, KS. (KAKE) — Trishall Dear recalled the moments that led up to her daughter’s death right in front of her apartment. “It started right here out in the parking lot,” she said.

Dear said a dispute between her twin daughters and a neighbor quickly turned into a brawl. “He was completely at fault. He made those punches first then he went back in and walked in his house and grabbed a knife and came back out.” By then, Dear said she made her way down the stairs of her third floor apartment to see her worst fears come true.

“I watched my daughter take her last breath and I watched my daughter say, as we were falling down the stairs, she said, ‘mom’,” said Dear.

Dear said her neighbor cut 22-year-old Kayla Brown’s neck and her twin Shayla was stabbed in the arm. “All of this could have been avoided like he usually do. Go in the house and leave us alone.”

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where Kayla Brown was pronounced dead. Early Monday morning, the suspect was taken into custody.

Dear said, “You were intentionally going to hurt somebody. Well, you killed my daughter and that right there is not fair.” Dear said Brown will be remembered as a friendly, sweet and hardworking young woman, taken too soon. “It’s hard. i haven’t had to go through this, losing my own child.”

The suspect, 38-year-old Seth Collins of Wichita, is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated battery. Authorities say there is no evidence of previous arguments or fights between Collins and the victims.
