Phoenix appoints interim city manager

Phoenix, Ore. — The city of Phoenix has chosen an interim city manager.

Councilors received applications from former Ashland city administrator Dave Kanner and former Ashland public works director Paula Brown for the interim position.

The council ultimately chose Kanner for the temporary position.

“Management style is great, but somebody needs to come in like tomorrow and know what’s going on. Not spend the next three or four weeks trying to figure everything out. That’s the position we’re in, whether I like it or not,” said Councilor Bruce Sophie.

In addition to serving as city administrator for Ashland, Kanner was also the county administrator for Deschutes county.

He will serve as the interim city manager for the next six months when councilors hire someone to fill that position permanently.
