Pilot survives after plane catches fire in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KATU/CNN) – The pilot of a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Marion County, Oregon Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office says the pilot is 73-year-old Eugene Mitchell from Portland.

He was flying from the Albany area to the Aurora airport when the plane caught fire mid-flight.

Mitchell was forced to land in a field.

He was not seriously hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Traffic Safety Board are now investigating.
