Police: Medford mansion taken over by thieves

Medford, Ore. – Medford Police said thieves took over a “mansion” in east Medford while the owners were out of town.

MPD said a maintenance worker who went to check on the large home in the 5100 block of Aerial Heights Drive found the home ransacked. The worker promptly left the residence and called police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said two people were found trying to open a large 1,000 pound safe. One of the suspects tried to get away, but police were able to catch him.

26-year-old Tyson Lee Ceideburg and 53-year-old Allen Mitchell Sr. were arrested at the scene.

MPD wrote in part, “It appears the burglars had taken over the residence for several days with various people cycling in and out, taking anything that wasn’t tied down.”

Police returned to the home at 1:30 Monday morning to check on it again. That’s when they found 46-year-old Kathi Coyle at the mansion. She was arrested.

Officers said more arrests are likely.

Police discovered that four cars were stolen from the home, including a Porsche, which was recovered Monday morning.  The remaining three vehicles are still missing.

MPD offered the following “learning points”:

  • If you are going away for long periods of time, make sure you have someone checking the home on a regular basis
  • A good quality safe does work. The suspects spent a lot of time trying to get in it and failed.
  • Be a nosy neighbor. If you see weird activity going on at a neighbor’s home, feel free to call it in. We’d rather respond to a big nothing than trying to figure out a “Who-dun-it” after the fact.
