Police searching for man who allegedly assaulted APD officer

0511 Assault SuspectAshland, Ore. – The Ashland Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly assaulted an officer in Lithia Park on Friday night.

A.P.D. said that assault occurred around 9:00 after a man was confronted by an officer who believed he was smoking marijuana.

Police said the man refused to identify himself and tried to leave. The officer tried to stop him, but the man fought back and punched the officer in the face.

According to Ashland Police, the officer dropped his flashlight during the scuffle. The suspect picked it up and charged the officer. The man was tased, but he broke free from the taser prongs and escaped.

“For this man to brazenly assault an officer who probably would have just given him a ticket if anything it’s really an egregious thing and we want to engage the public and find out who this guy is,” said Ashland Police Chief Tighe O’Meara.
