Portland dispensary owner says banking rules make pot shops robbery targets


Portland, Ore. – After a Portland pot shop was robbed, the owner is speaking out against a federal rule that prohibits banks from accepting money from marijuana business.

NBC affiliate KGW reports Chris Schaaf’s dispensary was robbed Sunday night. The robbers stole $1,300 in cash and nearly $1,000 of marijuana.

Amy Margolis, a lawyer who deals with the cannabis industry said marijuana stores are targets for robbers. “It emphasizes the extreme need for the banking industry to open up to us,” she said.
