Portland woman shoots, kills intruder in child's bedroom

Portland, Ore. (KOIN) — An mother of two killed an intruder she found in her Portland, Oregon home early Sunday.

Police say the woman was out with her two children that morning. She saw a man hiding in one of her kid’s bedrooms when they got home.

Already armed with a handgun, she opened fire and shot him. Authorities say the mother and her children are still in shock.

Portland Police Bureau Sergeant Pete Simpson said, “This is a complete stranger and she had her two small children with her when she got home, a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old and had a confrontation with the intruder inside her home – certainly a very scary situation. She is understandably traumatized by what happened as her children and we are going to help her with that side of things as well.”

Authorities have not released any information on the man. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
