Preparations begin for Jackson Co. Fair

Central Point, Ore. — It wouldn’t be July in Southern Oregon without the Jackson County Fair taking over the Expo. And despite it being a week away, preparations have already begun.

As crews piece together roller coasters and Ferris wheels, Jackson County Expo manager Helen Funk is looking to build on the success of last year’s Jackson County Fair. “Lots of things of course that are new and the things that were great last year we kept,” said Funk.

In her first year as expo manager, Funk saw 81,000 visitors come to the 2015 fair, a 20% increase over the previous year – momentum that didn’t come without a lot of work

“We’ve learned a lot about timelines, how things happen, who are the folks in the industry that can kind of call what are great acts,” said Funk. And despite the loss of the opening night headliner to a family tragedy “We’ll be moving forward with sadness that we won’t have Craig Morgan, but we have extended an invitation for him to come here in the future,” added Funk.

Funk says the show will go on – bigger and better than before.
