WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC News) – President Trump on Friday threatened to revoke more top-level security clearances, beginning with a Justice Department official he’s often targeted on Twitter.
“I think Bruce Ohr is a disgrace. I suspect I’ll be taking it away very quickly,” Mr. Trump said.
The president was alluding to Ohr’s indirect ties to a campaign-season dossier, and suggesting his relationship with special counsel Robert Mueller discredits the russia investigation.
“Mr. Mueller is highly conflicted. In fact, Comey is like his best friend. I could go into conflict after conflict,” the president said.
President Trump also defended his decision to take away the security clearance of one of his most outspoken critics, former CIA Director John Brennan.
Meanwhile, 13 senior intelligence officials are standing up to the president in a joint statement, calling out his targeting of security clearances as a “dangerous move.”
“He did it for transparently political reasons. When in fact, security clearances have nothing to do with politics,” says former acting CIA Director John McLaughlin.
William McRaven, the retired admiral who led the Osama Bin Laden raid, said President Trump can revoke his clearance as well, writing the president “humiliated and divided this nation.”
When asked about that op-ed the president said he’d never heard of McRaven.
