Proposed bill could get rid of no-cause evictions

State lawmakers are working to get rid of no-cause evictions.

A proposed bill would allow a tenant to fight eviction in court and if the landlord didn’t give a reason, the tenants would have 90 days to move with financial help from the landlord.

Ronald Bost of B&B Property Management in Medford says he doesn’t like the proposed bill.

He thinks it would negatively affect landlords and tenants.

“I feel sorry for the tenants. And I give them a 60-day notice. Gives them 30 extra days to find a place and it’s no cause so there’s no stated reason for why they’re being asked to move,” Bost said.

Bost says no-cause evictions allow him to send tenants away when he suspects drug activity and he believes the tenants are protected because he doesn’t have to share with others why he evicted them.
