Proposed ordinance creates tighter restrictions for Ashland marijuana growers

Ashland, Ore.– Growing marijuana in Ashland could be getting a little more difficult to do. Tuesday night city councilors heard from growers and patients as they are considering an ordinance that limits the number of both recreational and medicinal outdoor grows in city limits.

Growers in Ashland are allowed to grow six plants for up to two patients in their household. This ordinance would make it so only four plants can be grown per household whether medicinal or recreational. Each not reaching over 10 feet in height.

Some against the proposed law were at the meeting holding up signs supporting grows. Many were from out of the area or even there representing their patients.

“Patients depend on growers and without those numbers, they can’t provide the patients with what they need adequately. To reduce it at the city level is basically punitive,” said grower, Teri Knight.

The ordinance came up because people living near grows were concerned about their smell. Also in the ordinance, all future dispensaries will have to be 1000 feet apart from one another.

A decision will be made December 15th.
