Proposed park could go up in southeast Medford

Medford, Ore. — The proposed park in southeast Medford would be known as Village Center Park.

Medford Parks and Rec says it’s always looking for opportunities to provide parks for under-served communities.

According to City Manager Brian Sjothun, the idea for the park has been made possible by a donation from a developing company in the area.

“This proposed park is coming about because of the generous donation from Mahar Homes and so they are donating the property for the park which is valued at over half a million dollars,” Sjothun said.

Village Center Park would include two playgrounds, a half-court basketball court, a wide grassy area and a space for picnics.

The proposed park would be able to serve nearly 400 households.

One resident who lives across the street from the property said he thought the area would be used to build homes. Since he has one child with another on the way, he says he would be thrilled to see a park go up.
