‘Ascending Flow’ to offer help to troubled teens in Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A new mentoring program in Klamath Falls hopes to help troubled kids get back on track through music and art.

‘Ascending Flow’ Executive Director Talilo Marfil says most schools cut music and arts when budgets tighten.  “In Ascending Flow, we put music and arts first, and academics last – and because of that, their academics go up.”

Marfil believes the program will have the biggest impact on kids who are most at risk.

“We focus on marginalized youth.”  Notes Marfil.  “Kids that are on probation – kids that are getting bad grades – kids that have depression, anger, anxiety.”

Mentors must go through training, and a thorough background check.

“What I really look for in a mentor is life experience.”  Marfil explains.  “And someone who has a heart for the next generation.”

Marfil adds that 8 mentors have been working with 16 kids since last October.  “We have seen grades go from 1.6 GPA’s to 4.0 GPA’s, we have seen kids go from depressed and suicidal to happy.”

Ascending Flow is located at 1023 Main Street in Klamath Falls.
