Bend Police vehicle involved in crash that struck pedestrian

0307 bend crashBend, Ore. — Oregon State Police are investigating a two car crash that sent a Bend Police vehicle onto the sidewalk, where it struck a pedestrian.

Officials say that on Saturday morning, Bend Police Corporal Rob Emerson was responding to an emergency back-up call with his lights and siren activated.

While Emerson was driving through through an intersection at 8th Street in Bend, he collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck. The police car then slid onto the sidewalk, and hit a pedestrian, 39-year-old Brian Zacher.

Both Zacher and Emerson were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say the investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
