California and Oregon Pharmacists to prescribe birth control

11.24 CA OR BIRTH CONTROLWomen in California and Oregon will soon be able to get hormonal birth control from a pharmacist, instead of a doctor.

These states are the first in the US to pass the law, which will make birth control more accessible.

Pharmacists will be authorized to prescribe pills, patches and rings after women fill out a questionnaire about their medical histories.

The contraceptives will be covered by insurance, like they are now.

Proponents of the new laws hope it will cut down on the millions of unintended pregnancies that occur each year.
