Chipotle closes 14 restaurants in Portland area

320x180_51102P00-XAQCIPortland, Ore. — 12 people are being treated for E. Coli linked to eating at Portland-area Chipotle restaurants.

That’s three more cases than were first reported on Saturday, according to the Oregon Health Authority.

No one has died.

Chipotle has closed at least 14 of its Portland-area restaurants to help the health authority with their investigation.

The Medford location was not affected.

Investigators now say they are focusing on finding the source of the e-coli.

Dr. Katrina Hedberg, State Health Officer, says, “people who have gotten sick have eaten both beef, chicken, as well as the tofu or vegetarian entrees so it doesn’t look like it’s likely a meat product. It’s more likely that it’s one of the fresh food items.”

Health officials want people who have eaten at a chipotle during October and became ill with vomiting and diarrhea to see a doctor.

Symptoms usually appear within 10 days of being infected with E. Coli.
