Dog death in Klamath Falls raises concerns of possible animal mutilation

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Animal control officers in Klamath Falls are investigating a possible case of animal mutilation.

Klamath County Animal Control Officer Jim Nielsen says the 5 month old brown and white pit bull was found dead in its owner’s yard…

“We received notification on Friday afternoon of a mutilated dog on Crescent Avenue in the city of Klamath Falls.”

Animal control took the dog’s remains to Westridge Animal Hospital.

Veterinarian Carolyn Whitaker says she can’t tell for sure if the injuries were human, or animal caused…

“Just because of the extent of the injuries, and the timing from when it originally happened, it was difficult to tell what the cause was.”

Whitaker notes the exact nature of the dog’s injuries haven’t been released…

“We can’t go into that at this point in time because I believe it’s currently an ongoing investigation.”

“We’re still canvassing the neighborhood.”  Adds Officer Nielsen.  “All the information we’ve gathered so far we have shared with the Klamath Falls Police Department.”

Those with any information are asked to contact Klamath County Animal Control, or the Klamath Falls Police.

Klamath Falls Police are still investigating several cases of animal mutilation that happened between June of 2013 and February of 2014.

Investigators say they do not believe the latest incident is related.
