Dozer operator dies while working Sobernanes Fire

Robert OliverCarmel Valley, Calif. — Fighting the Soberanes Fire turned into a deadly effort when a bulldozer operator was killed on Tuesday night, according to Cal Fire.

Officials say 35-year-old Robert Oliver Reagan III from Fraint, California died from injuries he sustained after his bulldozer rolled down steep terrain on the southeast end of the now 27,326 acre Soberanes Fire.

Fire officials say Reagan was an independent private contractor who was trained to work on fire lines alongside firefighters.

The Soberanes Fire is 10% contained as of Thursday morning and threatens 34 homes. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
