Early morning fire destroys warehouse in Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – An early morning fire destroys a warehouse near the downtown rail yard in Klamath Falls.

Fire Marshal Craig Andresen of Klamath County Fire District #1 says the fire started shortly before 5 Thursday morning on Spring Street…

“Upon arrival, units found an approximately 10,000 square foot building fully involved.”

Showers of embers sparked several small fires.

Andresen notes firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings…

“The embers were a concern – and we did have crews over there checking them out, and insuring that we didn’t have further spread.”

Investigators are still working to pinpoint the cause of the fire, and where it may have started.

“At this point, we don’t have any indication.”  States Fire Marshall Andresen.  “And the investigation is going on at this time.”

Monte Keady of Fire District #1 adds the warehouse was destroyed…

“It was a vacant building that was for sale, and it had been in the past ‘Snappy Welding’, as well as Klamath Boxing and Fitness.”

Investigators don’t believe anyone was in the building at the time of the fire.

“At this point, we’re not aware of any injuries to personnel, or public.”  Said Andresen.

The Oregon State Police and State Fire Marshal are assisting with the investigation.

No dollar estimate of damage has yet been made, but investigators say the building and contents are a total loss.
