Fiery crash shuts down 140 between Medford, Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A fiery crash shut down traffic and cut power near Klamath Falls Monday morning.

State Police say a hay truck crashed into a power pole on Highway 140 about 12 miles west of Klamath Falls at about 7:AM.

Trooper Michael Benson says the driver was westbound, and apparently drifted onto the shoulder.  “When the trailer left the roadway, got into the shoulder, into the loose gravel, the driver lost control, and it started to fishtail, and then it impacted the power pole and caught on fire.”

The accident knocked out power to about 800 homes in the Rocky Point area.

Two people were in the hay truck, neither person was hurt in the crash.

The driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane of traffic, and was placed out of service.

Traffic was limited to one lane of travel throughout most of the day.
