Governor Kate Brown adjusts proposal for minimum wage

02.01 GOV. KATE BROWN MIN. WAGEOre. — Oregon Governor Kate Brown announces a change to her proposal to raise the state’s minimum wage.

Gov. Brown set July 2016 as the new date to implement a higher minimum wage, six months earlier than originally proposed. The governor states it will give workers higher pay sooner and provide a smoother transition for businesses to pay higher wages.

Oregon’s current minimum wage sits at $9.25 an hour and is already the second highest in the nation. The governor’s plan is to raise minimum wage to $9.75 this year and $13.25 by 2022.
