New school to open in Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Work on the new Henley Elementary School is nearing completion.

“We have 60,000 square feet, and 21 classrooms.”  Notes Klamath County Schools Project Manager Justin Azevedo.  “And a little over 500 students.”

The original school was shut down in 2006 after 77 years of service.

Kids have been attending classes in modular classrooms for the past 8 years.

But they’ll soon have their own cafeteria, and their own gym again.

The 19 million dollar project was funded through a 31 million dollar bond measure passed 2 years ago.

“Everybody can look at this project, and be really proud of it.”  Notes Azevedo.  “It’s our first bond project in 40 years.”

An open house will be held this Saturday from noon to 4 at the new Henley Elementary School.

Students are scheduled to move into the new school on January 4th, the first day of class after Christmas break.
