Oregon ice shuts down schools

NC_oregonice1201_700x394Ore. — (KGW) The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for Oregon’s Columbia Gorge and the North Oregon Cascades.

The warning takes effect at 4 p.m. Tuesday and lasts through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Ice up to a half-inch thick can build through freezing rain overnight.

The Corbett area was already very cold and windy Tuesday morning, and only expected to get worse. Tuesday, the school district cancelled all school for the day, because of icy roads.

“They just really want to be safe,” said Corbett resident Jina Kalberg. “I know a lot of friends, and family friends, who live up on Larch Mountain, and there is no way they are coming down.”
