Pro-gun control campaign calling for Douglas County Sheriff’s resignation

John HanlinDouglas County, Ore. — A pro-gun control group is calling for Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin’s resignation. The Brady Campaign, which was created to prevent gun violence, says Hanlin should be replaced as the lead investigator into the Umpqua Community College shooting.

In a statement, the group writes, “citizens of Oregon voted for the expansion of Brady background checks in a law this past May. In pledging not to enforce the new law, John Hanlin has clearly demonstrated that his political ideology trumps his responsibility to protect his community”.

Hanlin is serving his second term as sheriff and was first elected in 2009.
