Klamath Falls community meets ahead of sex offender release

Klamath Falls, Ore. — A man the state calls a ‘dangerous sexual predator’ is scheduled to be released in Klamath Falls on Friday.

Robert Burss has served a 15-year prison term for rape and sex abuse.

Kiki Parker-Rose of Klamath County Community Corrections says officer have been going door to door, notifying people in Klamath Falls of his release.  “He has been classified by the board of parole as a sexually violent dangerous offender, that allows us to do a full community notification.”

Pati Horton was one of more than 40 people who attended a meeting Wednesday on Burss’ release.

“Because I live two blocks from where this guy is being located, and I need to look out.” explained Horton. “There’s a bus stop right by my house where small children get off the bus every day.”

Parker-Rose says Burss gains the confidence of parents to gain access to their children. “He befriends them, and they entrust their children with him, and he molests them.”

Burss will be monitored by G.P.S., and will be staying at a downtown hotel that doesn’t allow children.

Many of the kids in the neighborhood attend Conger Elementary School.

“I’m charged with keeping care of them at Conger,” said Principal Julie Bainbridge. “And so I figure any information I can get to keep our children safe, at any given time I’m going to be there.”

State law requires offenders to be released into the communities where they were convicted.

“Our goal again is to arm people with information,” said Parker-Rose. “So that they can have the knowledge and the tools to help make sure their kids are safe.”

Burss is the second predatory sex offender to be released in Klamath County in the past two weeks.

A meeting was held in Keno last week to notify people about the release of Kirkland Enid Hampton.
