Shop with a cop in Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. – More than 50 cops did a major sweep at the Klamath Falls Walmart as part of ‘Shop with a Cop’.

Cops paired up with more than 50 kids Saturday night at Walmart.

“This year we were able to give them $2500 for the program.”  Notes Store Manager Kelly Cooper.  “They come in, then we plan the dates, and bring the kids, and have lots of fun.”

And the $12,000 the cops raised (which includes a $3,000 donation from Sky Lakes Medical Center) will help buy gifts for nearly 300 of the kid’s family members.

Marcel Kent is shopping for five family members.  “Stuff for my family members, for kids at our house that we have.”

The event is also popular with police.

“Absolutely.”  Says Kiley Bergstrom of the Klamath Falls Police Department.  “This is my favorite event that we do for the entire year.”

We asked Deputy West Packer of the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office if the event helps to bring out the little kid inside of him…  “Oh, absolutely – you get to shop for toys, who doesn’t love that?”

The kids also gain a new appreciation for cops, including Kamron Heckenlively, who says that Trooper Benson of the Oregon State Police is ‘awesome’.

Walmart also throws in a turkey dinner with all the fixings for every kid involved.

After the shopping spree, the officers and kids went to a Christmas gift wrapping party at the Steen Sports Complex.
