Republican rift grows

NC_campaign0803_1500x845(NBC News) — Political ties are unraveling Wednesday with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump saying he will not endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan or senior Senator John McCain as they face primaries next Tuesday.

“I’m just not quite there yet,” he told the Washington Post– exactly what Ryan initially said about Trump.

As Trump refuses to support Washington’s top Republicans, key Republican fundraiser Hewlett Packard executive Meg Whitman says her money is going to Hillary Clinton.

President Obama called Trump “unfit” for the presidency Tuesday, and challenged Republicans to un-endorse.

“If you are repeatedly having to say, in very strong terms, that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?” President Obama said.

Analysts doubt Republicans will abandon Trump.

“Some people will walk away. I’m sure others will hold their nose. But the fight will be engaged as Donald Trump as the standard bearer,” Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele says.
