Rogue Valley residents taking advantage of the warm weather

Central Point, Ore., — “I love fishing”

Sunny, warm weather is a great excuse to take the family out for a day of fishing.

That’s exactly what Lucio Andrade decided to do this weekend.

“When we go fishing it’s usually a family event just to get out, and just enjoy the out doors.”

Andrade had heard 1500 trout were recently dropped into the ponds at the Jackson County Expo from the Cole Rivers Hatchery, and he knew his family had to come and cast a line.

“We caught one trout, a pretty nice one at that.”

Jason Percell wasn’t having as much luck.

“Been here for about an hour or so and haven’t seen nothing biting.”

But like many who love fishing, he says it’s not all about catching the fish, it’s about just enjoying the day.

“A good day of fishing is not necessarily classified in a catching fish, but just being able to get out and enjoy the nice weather.”

The newly stocked pond is part of a make over from Jackson County Parks – gone are the muddy banks, garbage and drug paraphernalia.

And at the end of the day whether both men go home loaded with fish or not, they’re just happy the ponds are now a more family friendly space.

“It’s something to do, and you don’t have to take long drives out to the big lakes, it does makes it convenient just to kind of come out for the day, and enjoy.”

“It’s a great pond for the local people to come out and teach their kids how to fish.”
