SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh appears on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBCNC) – Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is on Capitol Hill for more meetings with Senators just weeks before his confirmation hearings are scheduled to start.

Kavanaugh began the day with perhaps his most important sit-down with moderate Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine.

Collins is considered a crucial swing vote who could boost or hinder Kavanaugh’s confirmation depending on how she votes in a closely divided Senate.

Kavanaugh has a series of meetings later in the day including with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to begin confirmation hearings on September 4th.
