Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says crime rates increasing

Siskiyou County, Calif. — Siskiyou County’s crime rates are increasing. That’s according to analysis of crime calls in 2015 by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.

In a Facebook post the SCSO said the rising crime rates are attributed to a lack of available jail space, an increase in illicit drugs, and diminishing resources.

Sheriff Jon Lopey says property crime increased 10% and they saw a 4% increase in violent crime in the county, although some cities like Yreka and Weed saw even higher increases.

Lopey also noted the impacts of illegal marijuana as the number one public enemy to citizens in the county.
